There are so many great Indigenous books. This week, I got 5 in the mail! Let me tell you about them!

The Forgetters, Greg Sarris, Miwok and Pomo

The Forgetters is a short story cycle that follows in the footsteps of the storytelling traditions of two of California's native tribes: the Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo.

Perched atop Gravity Hill, two crow sisters—Question Woman and Answer Woman—recall stories from dawn to dusk. What takes shape is a glimpse at cultural loss and a need for re-learning the history of our land. The Forgetters explores the questions: how can an understanding of our past help us repair the rifts in our own lives? And can storytelling revitalize our relationship with the environment?

The Missing Morningstar and Other Stories, Stacie Shannon Denetsosie, Navajo

A young Navajo man catches ride home near a casket he's sure contains his dead grandfather. A gas station cleark witnesses the kidnapping of the newly crowned MIss Northwester Arizona. A young couple's search for a sperm donor raises questions of blood quantum.

Painful history + the beauty of inheritance, ceremony and story telling

Sheine Lende, A Prequel to Elatsoe, Darcie Little Badger, Lipan Apache

This is a prequel to her hit book Elatsoe focusing on Ellie's grandmother.

Shane and her mother track down missing person, even when families can't pay. Then her own mother and a local boy go missing and Shane is going to find them no matter what.

Earthdivers, Vol. Two: Ice Age (issues 7-10) Stephen Graham Jones, Blackfeet

This is the second volume in a sci-fi slasher comic that spans America's colonial past to explore history and the choices we make to survive it. This is the follow up to Volume One: Kill Columbus. (issues 1-6).

Prehistoric Florida, circa 20, 000 BC, a tale of survival

I Was A Teenage Slasher, Stephen Grahama Jones, Blackfeet, 7/16/24

Yes, I did get two Stephen Graham Jones books in one week! So happy to receive this free advanced reader copy from Saga!

A coming of age slasher story? Please. I need to read this immediately. Jones' recent trilogy focused on the making of a final girl and now we get to discover the making of a slasher.

Let me know if you've read any Indigenous books this week or added any of these to your TBR!
